Robert Rivani, CEO at Black Lion Investment Group

Robert Rivani, President of Black Lion Investment Group, is an American entrepreneur, retail entertainment innovator and real estate visionary. Born in 1990, Rivani sold his first company–a footwear business–for $150,000 when he was only a teenager. From there, he went on to participate in day trading, only to lose most of his earnings. It was this first foray into the stock market that taught him patience and deliberation when it comes to investing. During the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009, Rivani worked at his family’s property management firm. He soon realized that there were opportunities in buying, flipping and re-selling inexpensive buildings in areas in need of development. He began doing this in Georgia, and then expanded to Wisconsin, Illinois and Texas.

Over time, he would perfect his business model and the art of the 1031 exchange. Rivani became increasingly interested in finding vacant or abandoned sites and transforming them into thriving retail and entertainment destinations. Throughout each process, Rivani always made it a goal to create ways to benefit the community. In 2014, Rivani created Black Lion Investment Group. He named it Black Lion because he feels he is the trend-bucking black sheep of the real estate world, and the lion is his favorite animal. To date, the company has transacted on over $500 million in real estate deals across the United States. Year over year, Rivani and Black Lion have consistently doubled their growth.

“I’m not your typical developer and owner, and never wanted to be. We have strong ambitions as a company, and are not afraid to take risks in this burgeoning new climate for entertainment and lifestyle real estate. As we begin to expand our portfolio, we are going to change the way it's done. I don’t follow trends. I want to set them to ensure future success,” says Robert Rivani.

Rivani sees the overlap of retail, entertainment and dining as a new frontier in real estate. Inspired by Miami’s high energy lifestyle, Black Lion presently focuses on entertainment-focused endeavors spanning from Brickell, Edge Water, Downtown, South Beach and all ever-expanding social scenes in South Florida. Through his company, Rivani has recently acquired the restaurant SLS Brickell, SLS LUX tower featuring the hot new restaurant Gekko with famed restaurateur David Grutman, Amara at Paraiso, One Thousand Museum, One Ocean, Marea and Continuum– all high profile restaurant spaces.

Furthermore, Rivani also has also developed a one of a kind property located in the heart of Wynwood, Miami’s famed creative hub. He acquired the property Wynwood Jungle to achieve this dream by dynamically changing the façade, look and feel of the center including building a 10,000 SF rooftop, all of which garnished 100% occupancy within 12 months of acquisition.

Rivani plans to invest another $100+ million into South Florida in the next year, as companies and individuals alike continue to relocate to the area from across the country. Rivani’s plans are certainly not limited to South Florida as Black Lion Investment Group has owned properties in 14 states. A historical and current profitable business model continues to be the retail power centers. Black Lion Investment Group currently owns a 300K+ SF center in New Jersey and a 100K SF center in Arizona. An early riser and a dedicated athlete (namely tennis and basketball), Rivani credits his disciplined routine for part of his success. His interests in life include spending time with his wife, traveling the world, and enjoying culinary adventures. Rivani has recently enjoyed his move to make Miami his primary home.

Alex Witkoff, Co-CEO at Witkoff Group

Alex Witkoff is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Witkoff’s development activities and operations from strategic development and conceptualization through execution. During his tenure at Witkoff, he has earned a reputation for consistently executing creative strategies across diverse asset classes. He is a key driver behind Witkoff’s mission to create dynamic, multi-faceted spaces that connect people and enrich their communities.

Among other projects, Mr. Witkoff is currently overseeing the development of One Highline, which features 236 residences and a flagship 120 key Faena New York hotel in Manhattan’s West Chelsea neighborhood; the former Diplomat golf club into a private golf club designed by Greg Norman, 100 branded residences, and a boutique hotel; 700 North Miami Avenue, a transit led residential development adjacent to MiamiCentral Station and Miami World Center; the revitalization of the historic Shore Club in Miami Beach; and The Park Santa Monica, a new neighborhood concept in Downtown Santa Monica that combine residential towers, retail, and public spaces. In all cases, Mr. Witkoff created a holistic vision for a new brand that inspires and informs every facet of property development, from architectural and design treatments to amenities and experiences.

In addition to his Witkoff role, Mr. Witkoff serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami. Mr. Witkoff is also a part of Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle, which recognizes intellectually curious and philanthropic young professionals, and is a member of United Way’s Tocqueville Society.

Further up the Miami River– across the street from the future site of Miami Freedom Park – Calderon’s firm is also developing a new 1,200-unit mixed-use, waterfront community on seven acres of land, scheduled to break ground in late 2024.

Neology’s current ownership portfolio consists of 1,200+ apartments recently built or under construction in Miami’s urban core, with another 1,600 apartment units in the predevelopment phase and a pipeline of 2,000 additional units in South Florida and beyond. Combined with 2,000 condo units previously built and sold, this represents a multifamily portfolio of nearly $2 billion.

A first-generation Cuban American, Calderon was born and raised in Miami and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree Cum Laude from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She launched her career in real estate at the Related Group, where she eventually was appointed president.

Calderon serves on The University of Miami’s Master of Real Estate Development + Urbanism Advisory Board and is also on the Advisory Board of the SE Florida/ Caribbean Urban Land Institute (ULI) and a member of the International Women’s Forum of Florida. Calderon is involved in numerous community organizations including Amigos for Kids, a nonprofit organization serving the needs of South Florida’s abused, abandoned, and neglected children. She also sits on the Board of the SAM Elimu Charity, an organization that supports the education and lives of children in poverty with high academic potential in Kenya. Today, the organization supports the lives and education of 140 children, including dozens of orphans. Four national food and beverage concepts will be joining the extensive roster of tenants at Miami Worldcenter, the $6 billion, 27-acre mixed-use development transforming the heart of Downtown Miami. The development’s ownership group has completed leases with Serafina, an internationally acclaimed and New York City-founded Italian restaurant group; Sixty Vines, a sustainable restaurant with an exciting wine-on-tap program and vineyard-inspired food; and a dual-concept location for BurgerFi and Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings.

Miami Worldcenter’s newest restaurants, which are anticipated to open in 2024, will build on the development’s exceptional lineup of recently opened food and beverage outlets, including three concepts by Ariete Hospitality Group’s Michelin-star-rated Chef Michael Beltran, Brasserie Laurel, Chug’s Express, and El Vecino Cigar & Cocktail Bar, and two additional restaurants expected to open soon, Earls Kitchen & Bar and Chicago’s Maple & Ash.

As one of the largest privately owned and developed urban real estate developments in Florida, Miami Worldcenter, which is currently coming alive in phases, features a diverse mix of residential, commercial and hospitality uses complemented by a total of 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. Approximately 84% of the development’s retail space has been leased.

Miami Worldcenter is being developed by master developers Miami Worldcenter Associates, led by Managing Partners Art Falcone and Nitin Motwani, in partnership with CIM Group.

“We’re excited to unveil another stellar lineup of restaurants opening soon at Miami Worldcenter, with Serafina, Sixty Vines, and BurgerFi/Anthony’s providing an excellent variety of dining options for our residents and visitors,” said Nitin Motwani, Managing Partner of Miami Worldcenter Associates. “From upscale Italian and sustainably sourced dishes for wine-lovers, to familiar fast-causal favorites, our newest food and beverage concepts will perfectly complement our existing restaurant offerings and appeal to foodies from all over – whether you’re grabbing a quick bite before a Miami Heat game or a concert at the Kaseya Center or visiting Miami Worldcenter for a five-star meal.”

Miami Worldcenter’s three newest restaurants are all expected to open in 2024:

Internationally acclaimed Serafina is known for its lively atmosphere and contemporary Italian cuisine crafted with the best imported quality ingredients. Since opening the first Serafina restaurant in New York City’s Upper East Side in 1995, the eatery’s ownership has expanded the Serafina family of restaurants with 46 locations across the eastern U.S. and in eight different countries around the world. Serafina’s Downtown Miami location at Miami Worldcenter will occupy 8,176 square feet of space at 652 NE 1st Avenue, Suite H-144, with outdoor patio seating along the development’s 7th Street pedestrian promenade.

Sixty Vines is a renowned restaurant collection celebrated for its commitment to sustainability through wine on tap and vineyard-inspired dishes. Often referred to as “the wine lover’s restaurant,” the globally inspired and seasonally sourced restaurant has locations across the country in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Florida. Sixty Vines’ Miami Worldcenter location will occupy 8,672 square feet of space at 150 NE 8th Street, Suite F-135, with outdoor patio seating overlooking the development’s World Square public plaza.

Franchisee NDM Hospitality Services, LLC, an innovator in the travel and dining industries, is bringing one of Florida’s first co-branded locations for the popular fast-casual and premium-casual chain restaurants BurgerFi and Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Wings (“Anthony’s”) to Miami Worldcenter. The dual-concept restaurant will feature both full-service seating and grab-and-go options from BurgerFi and Anthony’s, as well as a full bar serving beer, wine, and liquor. BurgerFi/Anthony’s Miami Worldcenter location will occupy 3,835 square feet of space at 851 NE 1st Ave., Suite C-114.

Retail leasing at Miami Worldcenter is led by CIM Group, a partner in Miami Worldcenter, and Miami-based The Comras Company. CIM Group is a community-focused real estate and infrastructure owner, operator, lender, and developer. The Comras Company is a leading, boutique real estate firm providing retail leasing, asset sales, consulting, and development advisory services throughout South Florida.

In addition to its exceptional lineup of restaurants, Miami Worldcenter is also home to the brand-new affordable luxury citizenM Miami Worldcenter hotel, which opened earlier this year; a new showroom and service center for luxury electric vehicle company Lucid Motors; as well as recently opened locations for national retail brands lululemon and Sephora. Complementing Miami Worldcenter’s retail streets will be World Square, a 20,000-square-foot outdoor public plaza and park. Designed as a central gathering place, World Square will serve as the heartbeat of the development featuring an abundance of open space, shade trees, and oversized, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks lined with dining, entertainment, and retail concepts.'

Miami Worldcenter’s $5 million public art initiative – curated by international art dealer Jeffrey Deitch and Miami-based curatorial collective PRIMARY – transforms the streets and buildings of the 27-acre ‘city within a city’ into a permanent outdoor art museum. Now complete, the program features a variety of contemporary and modern art works – in the form of large-scale murals, paintings, and sculptures – created by globally acclaimed artists including Nina Chanel Abney, Woody De Othello, Viktor El-Saieh, Nick Cave, Trenton Doyle Hancock, Hernan Bas, Serge Toussaint, Zadok Ben-David and Franz Ackermann.

Inter Miami CF has begun construction began on Miami Freedom Park and The Inter Miami CF stadium, following the closing of one of Miami’s last remaining pubic golf courses, Melreese Country Club: Miami International Links. Construction is now underway on Miami Freedom Park, a 131-acre privately funded entertainment district development anchored by a new 25,000-seat fútbol specific stadium and 58-acre public park. Miami Freedom Park scheduled to open in 2025 and the official groundbreaking ceremony will take place later this year.

Crews and heavy equipment are now on site, performing earthwork and sitework that will move across the 131 acres concurrent with vertical construction. This multi-phase effort will see the stadium, public park, entertainment, hospitality, retail, and new infrastructure that make up Miami Freedom Park’s first phase all progress rapidly.

Miami Freedom Park will feature a full range of entertainment and commercial offerings including office space, hotel, shops, restaurants, the stadium and additional experiences and attractions. Recreational components of the project include a new 58-acre public park featuring soccer and youth athletic fields for the community.

"With Inter Miami my family set out to build something truly transformational. In just four years we have changed the perception worldwide of American soccer. As we commence construction of Miami Freedom Park that same vision guides us,” said Jorge Mas, Inter Miami CF Managing Owner. “In creating a multi-faceted space we will set a new standard of what sport complexes can be. We look forward to delivering a food and entertainment destination for families to enjoy year-round. I can’t wait to welcome our fans to our state-of-the-art stadium and hear the chants as Messi and your Inter Miami players take the pitch for the first time in 2025.”

Leasing and commercial partnership efforts are underway to attract best-in-class partners, tenants, and retailers, including established and emerging brands and companies that will enhance this iconic new destination for Miami.

Earlier this year, Inter Miami CF ownership brought on experienced megaproject and sports-anchored real estate investment and development veteran Devon McCorkle to lead the effort as President of Miami Freedom Park. Devon has further curated a team of best-in-class design, engineering, project management and construction firms to bring Miami Freedom Park to this milestone and move the project into the execution phase following completion of the planning and approvals phase.

“The level of attention and the influx of inquiries we are receiving have been incredible, a testament to the positive impact of Lionel Messi on Inter Miami CF and the City of Miami,” said Devon McCorkle, President of Miami Freedom Park. “Everyone wants to be part of what we’re creating, a new entertainment district that will be the centerpiece of family activities and experiences in Miami. We are in discussions with stadium sponsors, hotel brands, major attractions operators, restaurant groups, cultural institutions and many other exciting potential partners. We will deliver an incredible home for them at Miami Freedom Park.”

Miami Freedom Park’s design team team includes Miami-based architecture firm Arquitectonica, global arena and stadia design firm Manica, and industry-leading large-scale stadium project managers CAA Icon. Following delivery of the stadium and initial retail and entertainment offerings in 2025, Miami Freedom Park will deliver additional retail, hotel and commercial phases through 2030.

Miami hit Messi mania following the international soccer superstar and World Cup champion’s announcement he would join the American Major League Soccer team Inter Miami FC in a blockbuster mega-deal announced on July 15. Inter Miami CF, owned by David Beckham, Jorge Mas and Jose Mas, became one of the most-Googled soccer teams in the world surrounding Lionel Messi’s debut with the team this summer, garnering over 8.4 million searches in two months and searches for both Inter Miami CF jerseys and tickets up over 1,000%. Following Messi’s announcement he would be joining Inter Miami CF the team’s Instagram account would jump from 175,000 followers to over 4.4 million.
