CocoWalk has announced the highly anticipated opening of Narbona Restaurant & Farm Market, a family-owned, epicurean specialty market and restaurant originating in Uruguay in 1909. The concept combines organic ingredients from its farms for a unique farm-to-table culinary experience and retail section where customers can purchase their farm-raised products to enjoy at home.

Situated on the ground-floor of CocoWalk, the 8,253-square-foot specialty market and eatery features a butcher shop, bakery and curated retail market with a wide selection of gourmet cheeses, craft beers, wines, and coffees – all produced in its farms in South America. Specializing in homemade and artisanal products, Narbona produces its own dulce de leche, gelatos, and yogurts. Facing the plaza, the 200-seat café has an expansive indoor and outdoor dining area, where guests can enjoy breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and sip on handcrafted cocktails. Patrons seeking a more intimate setting can host group dinners and events in Narbona’s private room.  A haven for enophiles and cheese lovers, the epicurean market also hosts a variety of tastings, in which guests can indulge and sample different wines, coffees and specialty cheeses.

“Although our dream began in Uruguay, we are thrilled to open in the heart of Coconut Grove because it’s an established neighborhood that places great emphasis on a healthy and organic lifestyle, which perfectly aligns with the freshly grown produce and high-quality, specialty foods we serve,” said Jerónimo Canton, owner of Narbona. “Our main goal is to share our family’s way of life, which is to find the perfect pairing for each moment, offering sensory experiences that last a lifetime. We believe our arrival to CocoWalk comes at an ideal time as the destination continues to attract locals and visitors back to the center Grove.”

The ambiance will center around treating patrons like neighbors and providing them with superior customer service as they select and taste the market’s high-quality products and enjoy freshly prepared foods from its dining menu. Encompassing the essence of true farm-to-table dining, the brand’s wines, cheeses, yogurts, olive oil and pastas are made from locally sourced, fresh ingredients from Narbona’s Winery and Farm in Uruguay, fusing technology, experience and tradition.

Narbona’s robust restaurant menu features starters such as Galician style octopus, traditional homemade empanadas and hamachi tiradito. The menu also offers brick oven baked Uruguayan pizzas, and freshly prepared pastas like spinach and potato gnocchi in a gorgonzola sauce with crispy prosciutto, baby arugula and salted walnuts and shrimp and crab ravioli with heirloom cherry tomatoes and basil in a creamy, spicy pink sauce. Signature dishes include organic half chicken with house salad and French fries, Entrañita comprised of a 12oz prime skirt steak with sweet baked potato and chimichurri sauce, the Cowboy 22oz steak with roasted potatoes, and Branzino served with grilled vegetables and gremolada dip. Customers are encouraged to save room for Narbona’s freshly made desserts including gelatos, crepes filled with its signature artisanal dulce de leche, and its famed baked meringue-based Pavlova Narbona.

The opening of Narbona at CocoWalk marks the concept’s second location in South Florida. Following the success of its first location in Key Biscayne, the restaurant continues to expand throughout South Florida with outposts set to open in Wynwood and Boca Raton.

Narbona Coconut Grove joins a line-up of retailers and restaurants at CocoWalk including popular brands: Bluemercury, FP Movement, Edward Beiner, Europann, Edite Mode, The Spot Barbershop and School of Rock. Coconut Grove is alive and buzzing amid a variety of new restaurant opens that are bringing one of Miami’s most historic and beautiful neighborhoods back into its heyday. In December Major Food Group opened Sadelle’s, a breakfast-centric haven, power-lunch hotspot, and energetic dinner destination located in Park Grove at the former Tigertail + Mary space. Nearby, reclaiming its role as the epicenter of Miami’s Coconut Grove commercial district, the newly redeveloped CocoWalk is now 100% leased with the announcement of the new openings including The Key Club from David Grutman’s Groot Hospitality and a new concept from Ariete Hospitality.

The Key Club, which is set to open at CocoWalk in the upcoming weeks, is an energetic American grill. It’s menu will feature items such as seafood, steaks, salads and will offer a sushi component with an upbeat, party atmosphere. The restaurant is designed with nautical and nature vibes with indoor and outdoor seating. They are currently hiring for management, FOH and BOH positions. Groot Hospitality is the restaurant group behind Swan, Papi Steak, and Komodo, as well as nightlife destinations such as LIV.

Then, in December, Sushi Garage unveiled its unique culinary experience inspired by classic Japanese flavors created by Executive Chef Sunny Oh.

Ariete Hospitality Group, the culinary creators behind some of Coconut Grove’s most popular restaurants such as Ariete, Navé and Chug’s, will also open a new restaurant on property this year. Set to open in spring 2022 is Narbona Natural Foods & Farm Market, the 8,253-square-foot specialty market that will feature a butcher shop, fresh pastas, and a bakery along with a selection of gourmet cheeses, craft beers, wines, and coffees – all produced on its farms in South America. In addition to the new and exciting dining concepts, world-class cinema Cinépolis makes its highly anticipated debut with the opening of a brand-new movie theater this winter, marking the return of the neighborhood’s only movie theater.

“Our goal with the newly renovated CocoWalk is to reinvigorate the lifestyle destination and offer a more curated experience to those who live, work, and play in Coconut Grove,” said Michael Comras, CEO and President of The Comras Company. “The return of Cinepolis, the top shops already open and our upcoming restaurant debuts by several of Miami’s leading hospitality groups will further enhance the lifestyle, dining and shopping experience the new CocoWalk has to offer.”

As the redevelopment of CocoWalk continues, the joint venture behind the project, comprised of Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE: FRT), Grass River Property and Comras Company, has announced that it has signed its anchor tenant, co-working company Spaces, to occupy 42,883 SF at the new Class A office building One CocoWalk. Spaces’ long-term lease is comprised of 2,029 SF on the building’s ground floor and 40,854 SF on the second and third floors. The anchor tenant brings the 5-story centerpiece office building to 50% leased, with other leases in advanced negotiations. Spaces is an international creative coworking company operating over 160 locations in 80 countries worldwide. This deal marks the third location for Spaces in South Florida. Randy Carballo and Gavin Macphail of JLL in Miami represented the tenant, Spaces, in the lease transaction while the landlord, One CocoWalk, was represented by Tere Blanca, Danet Linares and Juan Ruiz of Blanca Commercial Real Estate.

“As new ways of doing business emerge, the flexibility coworking facilities offer is gaining popularity. Spaces is a great fit for freelancers, energetic entrepreneurs, mobile workers and startups as well as project teams or regional headquarters of well-established companies,” said Jan Sweetnam, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Federal Realty Investment Trust. “Coconut Grove, renowned as Miami’s bohemian enclave since the 1960s, appeals to the nomadic, non-traditional mindset of the millennial generation now comprising the lion’s share of the workforce, making it a perfect site for Spaces.”

“South Florida is experiencing an entrepreneurial surge and Coconut Grove is quickly becoming one of the area’s premier destinations for startups to call home,” said Michael Berretta, Vice President of Network Development for IWG, which owns Spaces. “It’s an exciting time to be entering the market and One Cocowalk was a natural choice for our next Spaces location within the region. It embodies the vibrant spirit and ethos of our brand and provides the amenities and type of neighborhood environment that will help further foster our members’ growth and creativity.”

The coworking concept offers tenants a variety of workspace options, from dedicated desks to traditional office configurations to open areas that foster collaboration, on flexible contract terms. Special events and other perks conspire to create a shared work environment that is fun, efficient, inspiring and productive.

One CocoWalk is one of three office buildings under development for the first time in 30 years in the Coconut Grove office market. All three buildings are experiencing strong leasing activity that has solidified the Grove’s position as a highly desirable location for companies seeking class A office space. Amenities at the 85,762 SF One CocoWalk will include dedicated elevators connecting office users with private parking, 24/7 security, and a visitor entrance and lobby as well as access to a full-service gym inside CocoWalk. Perhaps the most unique amenity for tenants will be One CocoWalk’s rooftop terrace and event space, an urban oasis overlooking Coconut Grove’s lush tree canopy and historic brick sidewalks.

The transformation of CocoWalk will create a premier lifestyle destination with experiential retail, dining and entertainment spaces along with public spaces for the community to enjoy. When complete CocoWalk will be home to a total of 100,000 SF of office space and 150,000 SF of experiential retail, dining and entertainment space, along with welcoming public spaces throughout. Completion of the retail and office components are slated for the first quarter of 2020.

“In addition to offering entrepreneurs a fully-amenitized co-working space in the heart of Coconut Grove, the arrival of Spaces will bolster the Grove’s fast-growing daytime population, driving even more foot traffic to area shops and restaurants with CocoWalk at the center of this action. This is a big win for Coconut Grove,” said Tom Roth, principal of Grass River Property.

The upscale shopping center, which first opened in 1990, was purchased in 2015 by Federal Realty Investment Trust (NYSE: FRT), Grass River Property and Comras Company. The JV is now under construction with a redevelopment plan that will enhance CocoWalk’s connection to surrounding streets, aligning the property with the area’s changing demographics and revamping its commercial offerings.
