Anastasia Koutsioukis and Ahmet Erkaya, the husband-wife duo behind Miami’s iconic Mandolin Aegean Bistro, have opened The Drexel in Miami Beach. Anastasia Koutsioukis and Ahmet Erkaya, the husband-wife duo behind Miami’s iconic Mandolin Aegean Bistro, have opened The Drexel in Miami Beach. Since Mandolin’s initial opening, the couple have expanded the Mandolin brand to include homeware store Mrs. Mandolin; fast-casual gyros and kebab house, Mr. Mandolin; Mandolin Taverna in Los Angeles; and The Drexel in the heart of Miami Beach.

The Drexel, a Coastal Mediterranean eatery nestled in the historic Española Way, marks the duo’s latest endeavor in Miami. Helmed at the culinary hands of Chef Nano Crespo, and his wife formerly of Quinto La Huella, and his wife Tamara Magalhaes, formerly of Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Soho House, and Thompson Hospitality; The Drexel serves elevated yet classic Mediterranean dishes. The beverage program is curated by Founding Partner Ahmet Erkaya and features extensive cocktail offerings and rare boutique wines sourced from Greece, France, Spain, and Italy.

Characterized by its understated elegance and refined Mediterranean dishes, The Drexel is a hidden gem designed to elevate Miami Beach’s dining scene. The restaurant transports guests to the Coastal European towns along the Riviera through its favorable food and inimitable atmosphere. Drawing inspiration from old world cooking techniques to ideate fresh, innovative recipes, The Drexel’s culinary offerings and vision are influenced by the couples’ travels throughout Southern Europe and Chef Crespo’s expertise on the grill and Mediterranean cooking. Offering clean, light and bright flavors from the charcoal grill and wood oven, the menu also includes housemade pasta and pizza with a heavy emphasis on locally sourced seafood and an entire section dedicated to vegetable-forward dishes.

The Drexel is found on the corner of the first floor of Casa Matanza at the Esmé Hotel. Originally built in the 1920s, the historically designated building features a Mediterranean Revival architectural style. The building itself along with Española Way’s storied past is what attracted The Drexel’s Co-Founder and designer, Anastasia Koutsioukis to the project. Koutsioukis has an instinct and passion for preserving the history and cultural significance of an area, as well as identifying architecturally significant properties and transforming them into fixtures in Miami’s culinary landscape, as she did when designing Mandolin Aegean Bistro. Koutsioukis creates warm and understated environments that feel like they have been there for years in an effortless design style that’s distinctive to her projects. Koutsioukis was inspired by the natural and neutral palette that’s found throughout European coastal towns. The Drexel’s minimalist decor is characterized by earthy hand plastered walls, a bleached oak bar and stunning wall unit displaying antique ceramic vessels that have been collected during Koutsioukis’ travels. The calming space is punctuated with pops of light green marble on the bar and sage banquettes. The original arched windows set the tone for the arches throughout the space. The lighting and furniture is a mixture of French mid century pendants and linen upholstered chairs, along with plenty of rattan seating and raffia sconces lending to its Coastal Mediterranean feel. Additional personal touches include an art wall installation from the Owner’s collection, and plenty of natural palms, flowers and fruit bowls

The Drexel is open for dinner Monday thru Friday 6pm - 11pm; Saturday 5 pm - 11 pm; Sunday 5 pm - 10 pm. The Drexel also has a Sundowner Happy Hour daily at the bar from 5:30 pm - 7 pm and Brunch on Saturday's and Sunday's 11am - 4 pm.

Swanky seafood hotspot CATCH will return to Miami Beach after inking a lease at Robert Rivani’s Black Lion Investment Group’s Continuum restaurant space. Led by the powerhouse team behind Catch Hospitality Group (CHG), Tilman J. Fertitta, Mark Birnbaum, and Eugene Remm, CATCH MIAMI BEACH will open in 2023 and will mark the seventh outpost of the highly acclaimed brand, with locations in New York, LA, Las Vegas, and Aspen, with more in the pipeline.

“On the heels of two successful openings on the west coast, we are ready and eager to continue our expansion,” said Tilman Fertitta, Catch Hospitality Group partner. “Miami Beach has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years and the city’s evolving dining scene makes it the perfect time to bring our iconic brand to one of the greatest destinations in the world.”

Slated to open in the fall of 2023, the globally-influenced seafood restaurant will be located in Miami Beach’s illustrious SoFi neighborhood. CATCH MIAMI BEACH will be perfectly situated alongside Miami’s premier waterfront real estate, near some of the city’s highly-coveted and highest-grossing restaurants, including Prime One Twelve, CARBONE, Joe’s Stone Crab, and Milos.

Much like its New York, Los Angeles and Aspen counterparts, the expansive 22,000 sq ft restaurant is divided evenly between indoor dining and an open air terrace with retractable rooftop and will be designed by Rockwell Group, the famed interdisciplinary design team behind CATCH STEAK ASPEN and CATCH STEAK LA. With this location, Rockwell Group took the energy and excitement of the original Los Angeles location, an open-air haven, and amplified it to create a fantastical, tropical escape. CATCH MIAMI BEACH’s design celebrates the many elements of its vibrant surroundings from the neighborhood’s history as a golden playground in the 1920s to the city’s lush landscape and balmy nights and the iconic Floridian "Mediterranean Deco" architecture. Refined materials, such as bronze, antique mirror, bold marble, lacquer paints, venetian plaster and rich contrasting woods, are intricately layered with lush florals and dramatic lighting inside a sumptuous conservatory-inspired atmosphere.

“We are thrilled to bring the CATCH experience to Miami Beach,” said Mark Birnbaum, Catch Hospitality Group partner. “With its unparalleled indoor / outdoor dining and expansive retractable rooftop, this location is the perfect place for the next CATCH outpost. We look forward to welcoming the community into CATCH and hope they are as excited as we are to enjoy all the restaurant has to offer.”

Featuring modern renditions of classic dishes, CATCH’s streaming, shareable style of dining marries simple yet elegant seafood, sushi, and steak with excellent service and a lively vibe. The menu at CATCH MIAMI BEACH will offer many of the classic CATCH dishes the brand has become known for, alongside locally influenced dishes. In addition to a la carte service, the restaurant will be available for private and semi-private events, offering the quintessential Miami Beach backdrop.

“Following our recent openings in Aspen and LA, I am so excited to announce this location in a city that has become a second home for me. Miami Beach is a very special place, and I am looking forward to bringing CATCH’s three pillars of great food, service and vibe to this coastal city.” said Eugene Remm, one of three Catch Hospitality Group partners.

CATCH MIAMI BEACH will be located at 200 South Pointe Dr, Miami Beach, FL 33139 and occupy the crown jewel restaurant space at the iconic Continuum building, owned by President of Black Lion, Robert Rivani.

“CATCH MIAMI BEACH is a game changer for the neighborhood and Miami Beach as whole,” said Rivani. “Black Lion acquired this one-of-a-kind building with a mission to curate a distinctive hospitality scene in South Point’s ‘Restaurant Row’ and CATCH is the ideal brand to usher in a new era of elevated hospitality and dining.”

Buckle-up Miami, after nearly a decade of construction, Downtown Miami’s new $4 billion, 27-acre Miami Worldcenter mixed-use development, will welcome its first tenant on November 28 when Michelin Starred Chef Michael Beltran’s Ariete Hospitality Group (AHG) opens Brasserie Laurel. Brasserie Laurel will deliver upscale French-inspired Miami cuisine with a focus on local, seasonal ingredients and will provide a wide array of table-side service for some of their signature dishes.

The quality of food preparation and service will be at the levels of Ariete where it is no secret that the drive is to deliver world-class hospitality and maintain the highest of standards.

Miami Worldcenter, which is currently coming alive in phases, will feature a diverse mix of residential, commercial and hospitality uses complemented by a total of 300,000 square feet of retail, restaurant, and entertainment space. Brasserie Laurel will join other recently announced tenants slated to open at Miami Worldcenter over the next year such as Sephora, lululemon, Savage x Fenty, Ray-Ban, Posman Books and Lucid Motors, as well as dining and entertainment concepts Bowlero, Sports & Social, and Chicago’s Maple & Ash and etta restaurants.

AHG is known for their growing family of restaurants and bars including Ariete (Michelin Star), Navé (Michelin Guide mention), Chug’s (Bib Gourmand recipient) and The Taurus all in Coconut Grove; The ScapeGoat in Miami Beach, and most recently The Gibson Room on Coral Way.

“We see Laurel as Ariete’s younger sister, and if I had to share one thing about the ideology behind this menu, it would be that it’s a new approach to French brasserie food. Think Frank Sinatra, Dizzy Gillespie, La Tour d’Argent in Paris. Music will be swanky; food will be refined, but unpretentious, and wine and cocktails will be plentiful,” said Chef Michael Beltran.

At the helm of the kitchen is Executive Chef Ashley Moncada, formerly Chef de Cuisine at Ariete, bringing in 8+ years of experience in the industry and who has been until most recently, an integral part of the Michelin awarded team at Ariete. Having worked in France, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and South Africa, Chef Ashley, at her young age, has gained world experience, from shopping and preparing fresh produce in the French Alps, to cooking in an African game reserve, her skills will certainly be an asset, and the driving force behind the brasserie’s kitchen.

From escargots, frog legs, and beef Wellington to crêpes Suzette, you will find these classic French dishes accompanied by full-bodied red Bordeaux, crisp Champagne, refreshing Sauternes, among other pairings. “The wine offering is unequivocally French, but not exclusively; you will also be able to find some Spanish and Italians among Old World style wines available at Laurel,” commented AHG Wine Director, Adrian Lopez.

The cocktail program embodies a theme that runs throughout AHG: reworking the classics in a way that no one else has, a way that makes them uniquely their own; it’s a signature style of AHG Beverage Director, Tom Lasher-Walker. Taking ingredients, in their purest form and transforming them into delectable cocktails, is unquestionably the epitome of fine drink making.

“My philosophy is always to bring inspiration from the classics and creating perfectly balanced beverages, those are the styles that will stand the test of time,” mentioned Walker. From two versions of the House Stinger (vodka or cognac), a Miami and French inspired - Beneath the Sheets- with aged rum and pineapple, to a late 1800’s beverage known as the Corpse Reviver Royal with gin, bubbles, and absinthe; and if absinthe hadn’t made enough of a come- back, then Brasserie Laurel will make sure to bring it back in style. The absinthe fountain, while not a novel contraption, will certainly be an entertaining element that you will find behind their bar.

Brasserie Laurel’s interior is inviting and elegant, yet youthful and incorporates a touch of classic French aesthetic. The dark wood, gold, and deep blue elements give it a polished and vibrant look that showcases the quality and finesse of the dining experience.

“Our team is thrilled to welcome our first restaurateur, Brasserie Laurel, to Miami Worldcenter. Ariete Hospitality Group exemplifies the quality of tenants and the experience we are curating for Miami Worldcenter’s residents and visitors,” said Nitin Motwani, Managing Partner of Miami Worldcenter Associates. “Bringing life to the retail, food and beverage, and entertainment components of Miami Worldcenter’s master plan is critical to transforming our 27-acre site into a thriving open-air destination, and we look forward to the group’s additional concepts slated to open soon.”

Laurel is located at 698 NE 1st Avenue Suite G-170 at the base of Miami Worldcenter’s Caoba residential tower along the development’s 7th Street pedestrian promenade. Also debuting at Miami Worldcenter over the coming months, adjacent to Laurel, will be two other AHG’s concepts, Chug’s Express and El Vecino. The ‘ventanita’ from Chug’s Express will serve Chug’s Diner favorites such as croquetas, pastelitos, and coffee from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meanwhile, El Vecino will be a high-end first-class cigar bar serving a full liquor bar and light fare such as mussels, an assortment of meat and cheese, a grúyere burger, foie torchon, and a selection of snacks.

Miami Worldcenter is a new $4 billion mixed-use destination in the heart of Downtown Miami. As one of the largest private urban real estate developments currently underway in the United States, the project occupies 27 acres spanning ten city blocks and offers world-class retail, hospitality, commercial office and residential uses. Several phases of the project have already been completed and occupied, including three residential towers and a significant portion of the retail component, with a hospitality development slated to open by the end of 2022. The project is being developed by master developers Miami Worldcenter Associates, led by Principal Art Falcone and Managing Partner Nitin Motwani, in partnership with CIM Group.

Fort Hospitality Group, owner of Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, today announced that two Michelin-starred chef and restaurateur, Ryan Ratino, of Hive Hospitality restaurant group’s Washington, DC-based concepts, two Michelin-starred JÔNT and Michelin-starred Bresca, will bring a new dining destination to the property’s beachfront.

Located along the prime northern end of the oceanside boulevard, in the heart of Fort Lauderdale’s celebrated coastal community, the restaurant designed by London-based Tara Bernerd & Partners will bring a new inimitable culinary experience to Four Seasons guests and residents, as well as to the greater Fort Lauderdale community.

Led and managed by Executive Chef Ratino, Culinary Director Chef Brendan Mahon, and Director of Operations Jhonatan Cano, the restaurant, slated to open in 2023, will focus on pairing exceptional hospitality with flawless execution. Taking advantage of its oceanfront location and abundance of rich ingredients, the team will work in deep connections with those who grow, harvest, fish, forage, hunt, and farm.

The culinary team aims to tear down the walls between kitchen and patron and immerse guests in a progressive tasting menu where they will age, ferment, and pickle new paths in the pursuit of dynamic flavor profiles. Breaking with traditions, each taste is playful with process and tricky with techniques at the intersection of place and possibility.

Whether in the dining room or on the lush and intimate oceanfront outdoor garden, guests will have the opportunity to order a la carte or select the signature chef tasting menu consisting of six to eight courses. Nestled within the dining room will also be an intimate chef’s table offering eight to 10 prix fixe courses.

The restaurant will complete the dining experience at Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, the newest addition to the city’s luxury landscape in the nation’s yachting capital. Earlier this year, the property opened with Honey Fitz, an inviting café and wine bar located in the lobby also designed by Tara Bernerd, and Evelyn’s Fort Lauderdale, an eastern Mediterranean restaurant located on the Ocean Sun Deck with elegant interior design by renowned hospitality designer Martin Brudnizki.

Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale is also home to two oceanfront pools, a serene spa sanctuary, 189 accommodations including suites and hotel residences, and 83 two- to four-bedroom private residences with generous outdoor terraces with panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. There is currently one four-bedroom, six-bathroom penthouse residence, offering a private elevator, rooftop deck and phenomenal views, still available for purchase.

In addition to Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale, the Fort Hospitality Group portfolio of Four Seasons in South Florida includes Four Seasons Hotel and Residences at The Surf Club, Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, and Four Seasons Hotel Miami.

Major Food Group Unveils Contessa In The Heart Of Miami Design District Set To Open October 28

Tomorrow, Major Food Group (MFG), the globally acclaimed hospitality brand Vogue recently described as “carrying Miami’s decadent dining scene practically single-handedly”— will debut the refined, widely celebrated Italian concept Contessa in the Miami Design District. The restaurant occupies a two-story space in the famed development located at 111 NE 41st Street and open for lunch, and dinner.

Inspired by the old-world sophistication of Northern Italy’s iconic villas and estates, Contessa is a classic yet thoroughly contemporary dining destination by MFG Co-Founders and creative forces Jeff Zalaznick, Mario Carbone, and Rich Torrisi. The original location of Contessa debuted last year on the rooftop of The Newbury Boston and quickly cemented its reputation as one of the most glamorous and exceptional Italian restaurants in America. Forbes wrote that Contessa is “the place you’ll want to trade in the sweatsuit for high heels or a suit.” The luxury magazine Boston Common declared it the “crème de la crème” of the city’s dining scene. And in a rave, Boston Magazine concluded that “The food is terrific. The views are sublime. The wine list—a Nebbiolo nerd’s cherry-toned, vertical-vintage playground—is deep and dreamy.”

“Contessa Miami channels the singular sense of refinement and pleasure of those Northern Italian meals we wish could go on forever, right in the heart of the Magic City. I can’t think of a more perfect location to bring this restaurant to life, and to share with the people of Miami a menu dedicated to a rich and elegant region we’ve long hoped to celebrate.” Said Mario Carbone, MFG Co-Founder.

Beyond impeccable Northern Italian fare, Contessa Miami promises MFG’s signature warm, charismatic, and polished hospitality, carefully tailored to the city the company has called home since 2021, when it embarked on a groundbreaking run of restaurant openings in the region, including ZZ’s Club in the Miami Design District, CARBONE and HaSalon on Miami Beach, Dirty French Steakhouse in Brickell and Sadelle’s in Coconut Grove. The company now operates a portfolio of over 40 restaurants, bars, private clubs, and hotels spread across the globe. In addition to Contessa Miami and a range of upcoming projects in the United States and abroad, the company has several new openings planned for South Florida within the next six months.

“From the moment we arrived, I fell in love with the Miami Design District and the most iconic corner inevitably made for our beloved Italian restaurant. Contessa is grand and glamorous; it’s designed to be an all-day anchor where you can eat, drink and celebrate into the night in the most elegant yet energetic neighborhood in Miami. Our mission is to continue innovating and elevating luxury dining experiences in the Magic City and I’m honored to once again have the opportunity to collaborate with my dear friend and visionary, Craig Robins." Said Jeff Zalaznick, MFG Co-Founder.

Miami Health Food Hotspot Expands To South Miami And Signs Lease To Open Second Brickell Location

Miami’s health food hotspot Pura Vida has continued their expansion with the unveiling of the brand’s latest café in South Miami and has signed a lease to open a second location in Brickell. The South Miami location marks Pura Vida’s 12th location to date, and they plan to open another Coconut Grove location in addition to the newly revealed second Brickell location.

The South Miami location opened in late September and is located just steps away from Sunset Place and the University of Miami at Pura Vida South Miami will be located at 6022 South Dixie Highway. The brand’s South Miami café spans 2,370 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor seating and showcases Pura Vida’s iconic health-focused menu including their beloved All-Day Breakfast offerings, Bowls, Superfood Smoothies, Açai Bowls, Wraps & Sandwiches, their newly-launched Dinner Plates, and more. Additionally, to coincide with the opening, Pura Vida will be introducing a new ‘Blueberry Cake’ to be offered exclusively at the new South Miami location before rolling out store-wide.

“We are constantly amazed and humbled at how well-received our brand has been, and continues to be, in the different communities we branch into. We’ve had our eyes set on South Miami for some time now and we’re thrilled to finally be bringing this dream to fruition.” - Omer Horev, Co-Founder and CEO of Pura Vida Miami

For the second Brickell location Pura Vida recently signed a lease at 701 Brickell, one of the premier office towers in Miami’s Brickell Financial District. Marking its first location ever in a trophy office tower, Pura Vida will occupy a 5,000-square-foot space and have access to a 2,500-square-foot outdoor patio space with direct proximity to the highly trafficked Brickell Avenue and the neighborhood’s growing residential and workforce population.

JLL Managing Director, Zach Winkler, represented the ownership group, Nuveen Real Estate, in the lease negotiations. According to JLL’s Q2 Retail Outlook, Miami boasts one of the lowest retail vacancy rates in the country at 3.2% compared to other gateway markets including San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, etc.

“As demand for retail space in densely populated urban cores continues to rise, there is limited availability remaining in areas like Brickell, making this restaurant lease with an established brand like Pura Vida especially noteworthy,” said JLL’s Winkler. “701 Brickell’s premier location and high visibility makes it a top choice for food and beverage concepts looking to capitalize on a growing residential and workforce population within the neighborhood.”

Current office tenants at 701 Brickell include Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Holland & Knight, AIG, EFG Capital, and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau. A 7,400 square-foot waterfront retail space overlooking Biscayne Bay remains available, featuring oversized windows, 19’ ceiling heights, and the potential for outdoor space.

Founded in 2012 by husband-and-wife duo Omer and Jennifer Horev, Pura Vida was created to serve as a place for friends and family to gather and eat delicious food. The brand currently operates 12 other locations throughout South Florida, including outposts in Coral Gables, Miami Beach’s Sunset Harbour, and Fort Lauderdale, and has plans to expand outside of Florida. The restaurant, which has become hugely popular across South Florida, serves a menu that includes fresh cold-pressed juices and superfood smoothies, artisanal coffees, an extensive all-day menu comprised of breakfast items, customizable salads, bowls, wraps and sandwiches, in addition to dinner items and a wide variety of gluten-free and vegan sweet treats.
